“It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key.” – Winston Churchill

Okay, so I took this quote entirely out of context. Originally Winston Churchill was referencing the conundrum of the Russian military during World War II. However, I believe these words to be much more eternal and universally applicable.

Life, our spirits, and the universe that contains them all, is indeed a riddle and a mystery all wrapped inside an enigma. In every direction there is a contradiction which seems to remove our ability to form a coherent picture of the nature of reality. The moment that we build a model in our mind, another piece of evidence, information, or perspective crosses our path and we realize that all of our assumptions were built on foundations of nothingness. So we go about creating get a new model of reality and the cycle repeats again and again and again.

I’m reminded of the line from the Tao Te Ching

The tao that can be spoken of is not the tao.

The moment we believe we have all the answers we are given a good swift kick in the behind to remind us that we don’t have all of the answers. Perhaps this is because existence itself is infinite and infinite things cannot be confined to finite boxes of definitions.
